The brilliant mind behind the Covid vaccine is Katalin Karikó, a Hungarian immigrant to Pennsylvania. For some reason her name is almost not even mentioned in the news cycle. All we hear about is either the "Pfizer" vaccine or the "Pfizer-BioNTech" vaccine being able to be made because of two Turkish immigrants to Germany.
While that's a lovely story, let's give the recognition to the actual scientist who not only laid the ground work for this vaccine back in 2012 with her patent but left her career at the University of Pennsylvania to join BioNTech to make sure the vaccine gets made properly.
Neither BioNTech or Moderna's vaccine would exist without her and we all rely on this vaccine to get our life back to a semi-normal.
