Shipments of the 500 gigabyte Playstation 3 are ending soon, which will close the PS3 era.
A listing on the Sony site indicated that the last production model of the 11-year-old console is set to end shortly in Japan.
The first PS3 launched in November 2006.
Although support will continue for the software side of things, updates will eventually end as well, sending the console into the halls of obsolete gaming consoles.
But the PS3 had a long-shelf life and helped to continue Sony's trend of developing all-around entertainment devices, not only video game consoles.
In particular, the PS3 offered one of the best blu-ray players on the market during its tenure.
