Just a week after Lady Gaga officially released “Applause,” she’s debuted the music video on this morning’s Good Morning America. Why the rush? I’m sure in part because sales of her new single are lagging. In fact, Katy Perry’s “Roar” is more than doubling her numbers based on early projections. OUCH. Perhaps, the new visual will boost up her numbers a bit more.
For a Gaga video, the “Applause” visual is relatively normal. Minus a shot of her head on a black swan, it’s pretty much Mother Monster just dancing, mugging for the camera or writhing on a mattress. I’m also a little surprised that the Inez & Vinoodh-directed clip lacks any sort of narrative. I almost sorta like her lyric video more where she was hanging out with drag queens in West Hollywood.
The 27-year-old singer serves some major fierceness wearing a hooded bodysuit, wicked bra resembling hands and posing like Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Check out the video below.
