Miles Logged ≠ Life Well Lived
Somewhere along the way, "where have you been?" stopped being small talk and became the whole talk.
Eleanor Roosevelt said that
“Poor minds talk about people. Average minds talk about events. Great minds talk about ideas.”
I would preface that statement with “Destitute minds talk about places”. 95% of conversation (and social media activity) these days seems to be about where people have been. Conversations bankrupt of any meaningful topics in a world where so many issues scream to be addressed. It’s staggering. Makes you wonder how consciously it’s a reflection of the systematic thought policing taking place in the country today (travel being a “safe” topic).
